The making of the Flow collection

How this collection started with the graduation ring for my sister Karin. A little over a year ago my sister Karin graduated from university. Oh oh, that meant that there had to be made a ‘traditional’ pearl ring again. A blank sheet of paper was staring back at me, waiting for the first stroke. It’s exciting to start a new design because there are no limitations. Nothing to hold me back from imagining the ultimate design. But also no guidelines and support when it gets rough ;-) So first things first: time to set some boundaries! I started by defining what the piece should ‘be’. Heirloom tradition and jewellery

The tradition of pearls for graduation. In a lot of families it is tradition to pass down pearls from (grand)mother to daughter. Especially when there is a celebration like graduation and marriage. It’s an honor to receive them. But is it really a joy to wear them? Let’s be honest here: we love pearls because of their rich heirloom tradition but for the same reason we dislike wearing them: we think it is old fashioned and traditional. Although in my family the pearl tradition is not practiced I thought it would be fun to introduce this ‘new tradition’ when my twin sister Annet graduated. “Draw how it feels when you hug each other”

How a casual request from a friend of the couple led to the creation of a very special engagement ring. What do you feel when you hug him or her? That’s hard to express right! Well words aren’t the only way to express this feeling, let’s try a drawing instead. When for most people this would even seem much harder, this challenge was enthusiastically accepted by Jorik and Nika. They answered this question both individually, cheating was not allowed. When they finished sketching they compared their drawings. They showed some remarkable similarities!
